Many players have asked for a clarification regarding “T” scores as defined by the USGA and how they relate to our use of scores in the calculation of our “Local Handicap:

1.     “T” Scores are as defined by the USGA Rules on Handicapping in Section 5.2:

A tournament score is a score made in a competition organized and conducted by a committee in charge of the competition. The competition must identify a winner(s) based on a stipulated round(s), and must be played under the principles of the Rules of Golf.

The committee (preferably the Handicap Committee, in consultation with the committee in charge of the competition) must determine in advance if these conditions are met, and announce in advance whether the score must be identified by the letter "T" when posted. Routine events such as regular play days normally are not to be designated as T-scores because they are not significant in the traditions, schedules, formats, and membership of the club.

Coronado Men’s Golf Club has designated: the President’s Cup, the Senior Club Championship, The Club Championship and The Board of Governors competitions as being worthy of “T” score designation.

2.     Regarding “Local Handicap”.  All CMGC competitions where a player is trying to score the lowest 18 hole stroke play score will be used to calculate the CMGC players Local Handicap.  This will of course include competitions designated as “T” score rounds.  It will also include all pure individual stroke play competitions, like this year’s January Satellite and the first round of all two day eclectics.

If you have any questions regarding this please contact the Handicap Chairman Ron Graham or the Tournament Chairman Tony Tessicini.
